Frequently asked questions

What is Wise and what are its advantages? ＋
Wise (TransferWise until 2021) is a company offering international transfers and an account in which you can hold money in 40 currencies. It converts currencies at an averaged market rate and charges a separate conversion fee, which it shows upfront, before you place the order. It is useful for people who earn, pay or travel in foreign currencies.
How does the Wise multi-currency account work? ＋
With a Wise account you can hold money in 40 currencies and convert between them. For 20 currencies Wise provides account details that let you receive transfers much like into an account at a local bank; which currencies are available depends, among other things, on your country of residence. Conversions are made at an averaged market rate, and the conversion fee depends on the currency and is shown in Wise's calculator.
Is Wise safe? ＋
Customers in the European Economic Area, including Poland, are served by Wise Europe SA, a payment institution supervised by the National Bank of Belgium. Wise keeps customers' money separate from the money it uses to run its own business. Wise is not a bank, so money held in a Wise account is not covered by a deposit guarantee scheme, neither the Belgian one nor Poland's BFG.
What are the transfer fees at Wise? ＋
The fee for a Wise transfer depends on the currency and the amount, and Wise shows it upfront, before you place the transfer. When converting, Wise uses an averaged market rate and charges a separate fee that varies by currency. The easiest way to check the exact cost of a specific transfer is the fee calculator on wise.com.
Does Wise offer a debit card? ＋
Yes, you can order a debit card for your Wise account. When you pay with it in another currency, the money comes from your Wise account and conversion is made at an averaged exchange rate. According to Wise's price list for residents of Poland, the card costs a one-off PLN 35, and ATM withdrawals are free up to PLN 1,000 per month; above that amount Wise charges 2.69% of the excess.
