Who is it for?

Personal bank account for foreigners in Poland

Banks that confirm on their own websites that a foreigner can open an account with them, and the documents they ask for

Every bank on this list confirms on its website that a person without Polish citizenship can open a personal account with it. At most of them a foreigner does this at a branch, because the online application requires a Polish ID card. Bring your passport or an EU ID card and a document proving legal stay in Poland, such as a residence card. We checked the rules on the banks' websites on 14 October 2026. Requirements change, so confirm them with the bank's helpline before your visit.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Every bank on this list confirms it on its website; PKO BP, for example, says a foreigner can open an account with it, and Nest Bank says a foreigner can open a personal account in Poland. The exception is UniCredit, whose FAQ requires a Polish ID card or a Polish passport, so it is not on the list.
At most banks, no. Alior, BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole and Nest Bank say only people with a Polish ID card can open an account online, and foreigners open one at a branch. Bank Millennium, PKO BP, VeloBank and Erste also send foreigners to a branch. The mBank and Pekao websites do not say clearly whether the online application works with a foreign passport, so ask their helpline.
Not always. Erste Bank Polska says PESEL is not mandatory but asks for a TIN (tax identification number). VeloBank asks Ukrainian citizens for a passport or residence card plus their IPN number. For its eKonto for Ukrainian citizens, mBank requires a PESEL number and/or a residence card. The other banks on the list do not state a clear rule on their websites, so ask before your visit.
Usually an identity document and a document proving legal stay. Examples: VeloBank accepts a passport, a foreign ID card or a residence card from EU citizens, and a passport with a residence card from non-EU citizens. Credit Agricole asks foreigners for 2 types of documents: an identity document (e.g. passport or residence card) and a document confirming the right to stay (e.g. a visa, a residence or work permit, an employment contract). Erste may also ask for a tax residence certificate.
According to the banks' websites, these apps work in Ukrainian and English: PKO BP (IKO: Polish, English, Ukrainian, Russian), Alior Mobile (Polish, English, Ukrainian, Russian), BNP Paribas GOmobile (Polish, English, Ukrainian, Russian), Credit Agricole CA24 Mobile (Polish, English, Ukrainian) and Erste (Polish, English, Ukrainian, Russian). Pekao's PeoPay works in Polish and Ukrainian. Bank Millennium lets you switch the app to English, and mBank offers selected parts of its app in English.
Yes, several banks have separate accounts or simplified rules: PKO BP (Konto bez Granic), BNP Paribas (Konto na Teraz for people who left Ukraine after 23 February 2022), Alior (a basic payment account for refugees from Ukraine for 12 months, with a maximum balance of 5,000 zł), Pekao (Konto Pomocne), mBank (eKonto osobiste UA) and VeloBank (VeloKonto for Ukrainian citizens). The terms of each offer are on the Ukrainian version of the bank's website.
The banks list helplines with service in Ukrainian: PKO BP 800 302 302 (24/7), VeloBank 32 604 30 18 (8:00-18:00, 7 days a week), Erste 19999 or +48 61 81 1 9999 (Mon-Fri 9:00-17:00), Credit Agricole +48 71 799 71 14, Bank Millennium +48 22 598 40 45 (Mon-Fri 8:00-20:00). mBank has a Ukrainian-language helpline Monday to Friday, 8:00-20:00.
