UniCredit Term Deposit β who is this offer for
The UniCredit term deposit is a simple, three-month savings product with a fixed interest rate, intended for people who want to set aside spare funds for a short time without the risk of a drop in the interest rate during the term of the deposit. Thanks to a very low entry threshold (from as little as PLN 1) and a high maximum amount limit (up to PLN 25,000,000), it works well both for setting aside small surpluses and for placing larger savings for a short period.
Interest rate
The deposit offers a fixed interest rate of 2.90% per annum for the entire, fixed 3-month term. The rate is fixed (the interest rate type marked by the bank as fixed), which means it will not change during the term of the agreement regardless of movements in market interest rates.
According to the bank's data, 2.90% applies to the entire permissible deposit range, i.e. from PLN 1 to PLN 25,000,000. The product data formally shows a second threshold β for amounts above PLN 25,000,000.01 the interest rate drops to 0% β but in practice this has no significance for the customer, since the maximum permissible deposit amount for this deposit is PLN 25,000,000 anyway. In other words, this is not a real second benefit threshold, just a formal marking of the upper limit of the offer.
Interest is paid out only at the end of the 3-month period β the deposit has no interest compounding during its term, so throughout the entire period the money earns a single, known-in-advance amount of interest paid out in one lump sum after the deposit ends.
Terms and how to open it
The deposit can be opened fully remotely β via the bank's mobile app or the transaction system (online banking). A condition for using the offer is holding an account at UniCredit β this is a deposit for bank customers, not a product open to outside people without any account at UniCredit. The minimum customer age is 18 years. The deposit term is fixed at 3 months β the offer does not provide for other time variants (e.g. 1, 6 or 12 months) within this same product.
It's worth adding: while verifying the bank's website, we came across a separate, promotional UniCredit savings account offer ('Zysk na start' / 'Profit from the start') with an interest rate of 4.00% per annum for amounts up to PLN 100,000 for the first 90 days from activation, requiring, however, the opening of a new personal account on the same day and marketing consents, valid until 30 September 2026 (or until the limit of 5,000 customers is reached). This is a completely different product from the term deposit described here and has different terms β we mention it only as a point of reference, because for some readers with new funds it may be a real alternative at the same bank.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Fixed interest rate of 2.90% per annum for the entire term β a known-in-advance amount of interest with no risk of a reduction during the term of the deposit
- Very low entry threshold β the deposit can be opened from as little as PLN 1
- High maximum amount limit β up to PLN 25,000,000, a product suitable also for larger savings
- Fully online service β opened via the mobile app or the bank's transaction system
- Short, 3-month term β quick access to capital without long-term freezing of funds
Cons
- Requires holding an account at UniCredit β an additional barrier for people not previously connected to the bank
- Interest is paid out only at the end of the term, without compounding during the deposit's term
- Rigid, single term variant (3 months) β no option within this product for a longer or shorter term
- The 2.90% interest rate is noticeably lower than UniCredit's promotional savings account offer visible on the bank's website (4.00% for new funds up to PLN 100,000) β which, for new funds, may make the deposit a less profitable alternative at the same bank
Summary
The UniCredit term deposit is a simple, predictable product for a short, 3-month term, with a fixed interest rate of 2.90% per annum, a very low entry threshold and a high amount limit. It's a sensible choice for UniCredit customers who want to park funds for a while without the risk of an interest rate change during the term of the agreement. However, people with new funds who are willing to open a new personal account at UniCredit should compare this offer with the bank's promotional savings account, which during the period examined offered a noticeably higher rate.
